SAFETY
Upon arrival, you'll receive a comprehensive induction to prepare you for project work, local culture, people, and wildlife. This orientation will also cover essential safety information.

Our Volunteer Safari Initiative base teams provide 24/7 support, ensuring you have an incredible and unforgettable experience in Africa.
PROJECT DESTINATION DETAILS
Accommodation
Volunteers typically stay in comfortable shared rooms at our volunteer house. These accommodations are often located within close proximity to the project site, facilitating easy access to the school and community.
Meals
Three meals a day will be provided, featuring a mix of local Kenyan Cuisine and familiar international dishes. Special dietary needs will be catered for.
Communication
Kenya has a few different cellular network providers, for which sim cards can be purchased from most shops or at the airport. Various package options allow for phone calls and/or data usage. At the volunteer House, there is free WiFi to enable you to make contact back home.
Climate
Mombasa has a tropical climate characterized by hot and humid conditions throughout the year. The city experiences two distinct seasons: a dry season from December to March and a wet season from April to November. Temperatures typically range from 25°C to 30°C (77°F to 86°F), with occasional spikes during the hotter months. Volunteers should pack lightweight and breathable clothing, as well as sun protection, to stay comfortable in the warm weather.
PROJECT TASK
- Turtle Nest Monitoring: Patrol beaches to locate and monitor turtle nests, ensuring the safety of eggs from poachers and natural predators.
- Rescue and Rehabilitation: Assist in rescuing injured turtles and participate in their rehabilitation at our dedicated conservation center.
- Data Collection and Research: Collect crucial data on turtle populations, nesting habits, and environmental conditions to support ongoing research and conservation efforts.
- Community Education and Outreach: Engage with local communities and schools to raise awareness about the importance of turtle conservation and marine ecosystem protection.
- Beach Clean-ups: Participate in regular beach clean-up activities to maintain a safe and healthy environment for both turtles and the local community.

When you’re ready to proceed with your booking, we’ll provide you with a booking form. A deposit will be needed at that point to secure your spot.

The weekly cost will reduce if you stay for longer than 2 weeks, book with a friend or a family member.
