PROJECT DESTINATION
Mombasa, Kenya’s vibrant coastal city, offers a unique and enriching destination for our Sports Coaching Volunteer Program. Known for its rich cultural heritage, Mombasa is a melting pot of African, Arabic, Asian, and European influences, evident in its architecture, cuisine, and festivals. Volunteers can explore historical sites like Fort Jesus and the charming Old Town, relax on pristine beaches, and enjoy water sports along the Indian Ocean. The warm and welcoming local community, combined with modern amenities and a tropical climate, ensures a comfortable and engaging stay. Additionally, the city serves as a gateway to wildlife safaris and marine parks, providing endless opportunities for adventure.

A friendly face from our Base Team will be ready to meet you at the airport and drive you to our Volunteer Accommodation. Just look out for the Volunteer Safari Initiative sign!
SAFETY
Upon arrival, you'll receive a comprehensive induction to prepare you for project work, local culture, people, and wildlife. This orientation will also cover essential safety information.
STAFF
Our Volunteer Safari Initiative base teams provide 24/7 support, ensuring you have an incredible and unforgettable experience in Africa.
PROJECT DESTINATION DETAILS
Accommodation
Volunteers typically stay in comfortable shared rooms at our volunteer house. These accommodations are often located within close proximity to the project site, facilitating easy access to the school and community.
Meals
Three meals a day will be provided, featuring a mix of local Kenyan Cuisine and familiar international dishes. Special dietary needs will be catered for.
Communication
Kenya has a few different cellular network providers, for which sim cards can be purchased from most shops or at the airport. Various package options allow for phone calls and/or data usage. At the volunteer House, there is free WiFi to enable you to make contact back home.
Climate
Mombasa has a tropical climate characterized by hot and humid conditions throughout the year. The city experiences two distinct seasons: a dry season from December to March and a wet season from April to November. Temperatures typically range from 25°C to 30°C (77°F to 86°F), with occasional spikes during the hotter months. Volunteers should pack lightweight and breathable clothing, as well as sun protection, to stay comfortable in the warm weather.
PROJECT TASK
- Sport Lessons Delivery: Bring energy and creativity to delivering sport lessons to primary school children, focusing on skill development, teamwork, and enjoyment.
- Assisting After-School Sports Clubs: Support various after-school sports clubs, offering coaching, encouragement, and sharing your favorite sport with the participants.
- Teaching Physical Health and Life Skills: Lead lessons on essential topics such as hygiene, nutrition, communication, and teamwork, fostering holistic development among students.

Once you fill out the application form below, a Destination Specialist will reach out to discuss your volunteer experience and answer any questions you might have. When you’re ready to proceed with your booking, we’ll provide you with a booking form. A deposit will be needed at that point to secure your spot.
PRICE
FROM $650 Per week
The weekly cost will reduce if you stay for longer than 2 weeks, book with a friend or a family member.
