This bustling port city, with its blend of Swahili, Arab, Indian, and European influences, offers a captivating tapestry of experiences awaiting discovery. From the ancient alleys of Old Town, where echoes of centuries past linger amidst bustling markets and historic forts, to the sun-kissed shores of Diani and Nyali Beaches, where azure waters beckon relaxation and adventure, Mombasa captivates the soul with its diversity and charm. A friendly face from our Base Team will be ready to meet you at the airport and drive you to our Volunteer Accommodation. Just look out for the Volunteer Safari Initiative sign!
SAFETY
Upon arrival, you'll receive a comprehensive induction to prepare you for project work, local culture, people, and wildlife. This orientation will also cover essential safety information.
STAFF
Our Volunteer Safari Initiative base teams provide 24/7 support, ensuring you have an incredible and unforgettable experience in Africa.
PROJECT DESTINATION DETAILS
Accommodation
Volunteers typically stay in comfortable shared rooms at our volunteer house. These accommodations are often located within close proximity to the project site, facilitating easy access to the school and community.
Meals
Three meals a day will be provided, featuring a mix of local Kenyan Cuisine and familiar international dishes. Special dietary needs will be catered for.
Communication
Kenya has a few different cellular network providers, for which sim cards can be purchased from most shops or at the airport. Various package options allow for phone calls and/or data usage. At the volunteer House, there is free WiFi to enable you to make contact back home.
Climate
Mombasa, located along the Kenyan coast, experiences a tropical monsoon climate characterized by hot and humid conditions throughout much of the year. The city typically has two distinct seasons: a wet season and a dry season. The wet season, spanning from April to June and October to November, brings heavy rainfall and occasional thunderstorms, often accompanied by high humidity levels. During this time, temperatures remain warm, ranging from around 25°C to 30°C (77°F to 86°F). The dry season, from December to March and July to September, sees significantly less rainfall and lower humidity, with temperatures typically ranging from 25°C to 32°C (77°F to 90°F). Mombasa enjoys relatively stable temperatures year-round, making it a popular destination for beachgoers and tourists seeking warm, sunny weather.

- Community Immersion: Experience firsthand the daily lives, customs, and traditions of local communities through homestays, cultural activities, and interaction with community members.
- Language Learning: Enhance your language skills by learning the local dialect or language, enabling deeper communication and understanding with community members.
- Skill Sharing: Share your talents, knowledge, and expertise with community members through workshops, educational programs, and hands-on activities.
- Volunteer Work: Engage in community development projects, such as education, healthcare, environmental conservation, or infrastructure development, to address local needs and contribute to sustainable development.

Once you fill out the application form below, a Destination Specialist will reach out to discuss your volunteer experience and answer any questions you might have. When you’re ready to proceed with your booking, we’ll provide you with a booking form. A deposit will be needed at that point to secure your spot.
PRICE
FROM $850 Per week
The weekly cost will reduce if you stay for longer than 2 weeks, book with a friend or a family member.
