Travel Requirements to Volunteer in Kenya
Passport and Visa
- Valid Passport: Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your planned departure date from Kenya. It should have at least two blank pages for entry and exit stamps.
- Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA): Kenya has replaced the traditional visa with an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA). You must apply for an eTA online through the official Kenyan eVisa portal before your departure. The eTA typically covers tourist and volunteer activities, but verify the specific requirements for your stay.
Vaccinations and Health Precautions
- Vaccinations: Recommended vaccinations for Kenya include Hepatitis A and B, Typhoid, Yellow Fever, and Tetanus. A Yellow Fever vaccination is mandatory for travelers coming from Yellow Fever endemic countries and is strongly recommended for all travelers.
- Malaria Prevention: Kenya is a malaria-risk country, so take prophylactic medication as advised by your healthcare provider. Use mosquito repellent, wear long-sleeved clothing, and sleep under mosquito nets where necessary.
- COVID-19: Stay updated on Kenya’s COVID-19 requirements, which may include proof of vaccination or a negative PCR test taken within a specified timeframe before travel.
